Cellulite

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite, often referred to as “cottage cheese skin” or “orange peel skin,” is a common condition that affects the appearance of the skin, particularly on the thighs, hips, and buttocks. It’s caused by fat deposits pushing through connective tissue under the skin, creating a bumpy, dimpled texture. While not a health concern, cellulite can be an annoyance and something patients do not like to have.

Treatment for Cellulite

There are many options for cellulite treatment, but it’s important to understand that none of them can permanently eliminate cellulite. However, some treatments can reduce its appearance. Here’s a breakdown of the different categories:

  • Subcision: Subcision is a minimally invasive surgical procedure aimed at improving the appearance of cellulite. It involves using a specialized needle or cannula to sever the fibrous bands beneath the skin that contribute to the dimpled look. Consult with Dr. Parth Patel for treatment today.

  • Non-invasive energy treatments: These treatments use technologies like radiofrequency, ultrasound, or laser to target deeper skin layers. They aim to improve circulation, stimulate collagen production, and potentially break down fibrous septae that contribute to cellulite’s appearance.

  • FillersProducts like Radiesse® and Sculptra®, while designed for facial rejuvenation, in select cases can be helpful for cellulite treatment.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Lifestyle changes: Maintaining a healthy weight, eating a balanced diet, and exercising regularly can all help reduce the appearance of cellulite.

  • Realistic expectations: No treatment can completely eliminate cellulite. It’s best to focus on treatments that can improve its appearance and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

It’s important to consult with our cosmetic dermatologist and surgeon, Dr. Parth Patel, to discuss which cellulite treatment option might be right for you, considering your individual needs and expectations.
